Urine osmolality is a measure of particles in the urine. A high value means a high concentration of particles, and a low value means a low concentration. A high concentration may indicate dehydration, heart failure or shock, while a lower than normal concentration may reveal too much fluid intake, kidney damage or severe kidney infection. (1, 2)
